# API keys

> Create, rotate, and revoke keys for your applications.

Use a separate named key for each application or environment. All keys share your account's [request quota](https://docs.sanfoundation.com/platform/usage-and-billing.md).

## Create a key

1. Open [API keys](https://platform.sanfoundation.com/dashboard/keys) and click **Create key**.
2. Enter a **Name** of 1–64 characters, then click **Create key**.
3. Copy the key and store it in your application's secret manager or environment configuration.
4. Click **Done**.

SAN shows the full key only once. You can have up to 10 live keys; revoke an unused key if you reach the limit. Creating a key does not add quota.

See [authentication](https://docs.sanfoundation.com/guides/authentication.md) for request headers and key storage.

## Rotate or revoke

To rotate a key, create a replacement, update your application, verify a request, then revoke the old key.

To revoke, find the key, click **Revoke**, and confirm with **Revoke key**. Revocation takes effect immediately; applications using that key receive `401`.

SAN Miner connects through its own [browser flow](https://docs.sanfoundation.com/miners/quickstart.md) and does not need an API key.
